A major new study commissioned by the American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association (AOPA) and the Amputee Coalition, confirms that orthotics and prosthetics not only lead to a better quality of life and improved mobility, but that insurers like Medicare save money.
According to the study, Patients without the devices are likely:
- To require more acute care hospitalizations
- To have more emergency room admissions
- To have more institutional treatments in skilled nursing and rehab facilities
As previously mentioned, orthotics and prosthetics offer obvious soft benefits in the form of:
- Better quality of life
- Enhanced mobility
- Greater opportunity for patients to more fully participate in earning a living and enjoying life
